Bring Your Own AI Voice with Full Control
Speech Central has always followed a unique bring-your-own-provider approach to AI text-to-speech. Instead of reselling cloud voices, the app allows users to connect their own API keys from leading platforms such as Microsoft Azure, OpenAI, and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech.
This means you get direct access to premium neural voices, the provider’s own pricing, and even their free tiers — without any markup from the app.
For users who rely on high-quality AI voices for studying, reading, accessibility, or content creation, this model provides maximum flexibility and transparency. You pay only your cloud provider, and you keep full control of your usage.
New Feature: Save Streamed AI Audio for Repeated Playback
The latest version of Speech Central introduces a powerful new option: streamed cloud audio can now be stored on your device for future playback.
Once enabled, any audio generated by Azure, OpenAI, or Google Cloud voices can be saved locally and reused whenever the same text is narrated again.
This unlocks several major benefits:
- Zero additional cloud cost for repeated narration
- Fully offline playback after the first generation
- Lower battery usage since no streaming or network activity is required
- Instant playback with no waiting for voice generation
This is especially valuable in education, where the same material is often listened to many times. Students can generate once, then replay endlessly without spending additional credits or requiring an internet connection.
Optimized for Cloud TTS Cost Savings
Cloud AI voices are billed per character or per minute of generated speech. With Speech Central’s new audio caching, that cost is paid only once. Every future playback uses the saved audio instead of re-generating it from the cloud.
For users working with long documents, textbooks, or language learning material, this can lead to dramatic reductions in monthly Azure, OpenAI, or Google Cloud TTS costs.
Simple Setup in Stream Settings
To make this feature easy to use, Speech Central now includes a dedicated Stream Settings page. Here you can enable or disable audio storage for cloud voices in one place.
You can access it:
- From the cloud provider dropdown menu
- Inside the setup dialog of each AI voice provider
This gives you full control over disk usage while letting you decide exactly which voices should benefit from local caching.
Available First on iOS and macOS, Android Coming Soon
As with other major Speech Central updates, this feature is first released on iOS and macOS.
With recent improvements in the Android version, all new Apple-platform features are now expected to reach Android in a much shorter timeframe than before.
This means users across all platforms will soon be able to enjoy offline, cost-free replay of AI-generated speech.
